There are so many.
When I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with Vitiligo.
In India, it was rare in the 1990’s.
No one knew that Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease, and the doctors didn’t offer any information.
The journey of curing this condition began with me and my parents.
Over the years, I was exposed to many different types of treatments and medications.
In order to get rid of my white patches, we went to many temples and shrines, prayed to many gods, and performed various rituals.
I have tried a number of drugs.
Allopathic treatments:
UV therapy with steroid based medications.
The doctor removed the white patched skin and bandaged it to heal it.
After a few days, a steroid based cream was to be applied to the healed part and exposed to the UV lamp.
Naturopathy treatments:
Fermented food and meat consumption are included.
The pills and lotion will be applied twice a day.
I had to soak in this cold-water bath for 30–45 minutes every day because of the powder that had to be dissolved in cold water.
Ayruvedic treatments:
Treatments done by Vaman and Virechan.
There is a strict vegetarian diet.
Did anything accomplish anything?
Short term-
The effect of allopathic treatments was to shrink the white patches, but it only lasted for a few months, and then the patches would respire and new patches would start to appear.
The spread of the patches was controlled by the temporary use of Ayurvedic medications.
Nothing worked over the long term.
After my diagnosis, I had a talk with my parents and stopped taking all my medication.
After they failed to deliver on the promise, I gave up on the treatments.
In India, there was no mention of the fact that vitiligo is an auto-immune disease and that there is no cure.
The cure for this condition was claimed by every doctor I saw.
Even after multiple doctors and medications failed to cure it, my parents never gave up.
They hope and pray that I will be cured of this problem.
White patches cover most of my body today.
A normal and healthy life is what I lead.
Small, newly depigmented areas are the best places to use a steroid.

If the spots are on the face, genitals, breasts, or underarms, I tell them to use tacrolimus since they are more sensitive to steroid use.
